The article presents a preliminary discussion about the language spoken by the Buddha during his life and the period of teaching. There has been several studies related to the topic including the claims by several scholars and researchers as the impacts of philological, historical and linguistic perspectives within the study. However, the pros and cons emerged among scholars and researchers and simultaneosly brought a retrieval discussion and discourse based on various methods and most recent evidences. The discourse was emerged not only because of result and the finding but merely favouring the curiousity upon the quest of what was actually the language of the Buddha. Yet, Pali Language (Palibhasa), is not a center of attraction being investigated here, but rather than seeking the nature of Pali as the most widely-known language of the Buddha written in Pali Canon. This article postulates a brief examination of the findings based on the studies conducted by buddhist scholars as well as the discusions among people who concern on the linguistic aspects of the Buddha. Even though the language item is not a fundamental part of the Buddhavacana, the search of the most authentic Buddha's language brings particular senses especially a preview of Buddha's activities of all time. This paper concludes that the spoken language of the Buddha is influenced by many sociolinguistic factors, cultural background, political backdrops as well as the geopolitics.
