『釋迦如來行績頌』에서 나타난 浮庵無寄(14세기 경)의 淨土觀은 體用相卽論에 의거한 四土三身觀을 전개한다는 점에서 天台智顗(538-597)의 구도를 따른다. 하지만 중생구제를 위해 彌陀淨土 뿐만 아니라 彌勒下生의 末法思想 및 稱名念佛을 아우르는 특성을 보인다. 즉 아미타 관법․修懺持戒․다라니 등 여러 방편을 통해 彌陀往生을 추구하면서도 彌勒下生의 龍華道場을 위해 持戒바라밀 등의 末法行을 중시한다. 四土三身說의 적용에서도 一心과 一乘因果, 三昧와 念佛行 간에 융통자재한 유연성을 보인다. 四土觀의 경우, 天台에 비해 體와 相이 상호 전화될 수 있는 열린 구조를 나타낸다. 이 점에서 淨影寺 慧遠(523-592)의 淨土觀과도 상통하는 요소가 있다. 나아가 穢土衆生의 往生을 위한 方便行을 포괄하는 무차별 지향을 지닌다. 三身說에서도 末法衆生의 구제론 측면에서 淨土의 교주를 報土․應土에까지 化現시키는 彌陀三昧․彌勒信仰 및 念佛行을 포괄한다. 한편, 이러한 실천수행론에 나타난 구제론의 특성에는 唯心적 지향이 두드러진다. 하지만 自性身․受用身을 變化身과 구분하는 唯識․法相 계열에 비해 수평적 구도를 지닌다. 이 점에서 무기의 四土三身說은 천태의 단순한 계승이 아니라, 末法時代 인식에 상응한 天台圓敎의 方便門的 淨土往生論과 念佛觀을 實踐的으로 계승한 淨土觀으로 평가할 수 있다.
Mugi’s view of pure land follows the scheme of Tiantai Zhiyi in the sense that he shows the view of ‘Four Lands and Three Bodies of Buddha’ based on the discourse of mutual congruity between substance and function. Yet, it reveals the features of encompassing the thought of the era of decline of Doctrine and invoking the name of Amitabha for the redemption of the people, along with the thought of Amitabha pure land. For this, he uses many skillful means(upaya) like the practice of contrition in the name of Amitābha and dhāraṇī, in company with Pāramitā of upholding precepts for preparing the descent of Maitrea. Meanwhile, the characteristics of saving the people in Mugi’s view of practice shows horizontal feature compared with Mind-only or Faxiang thinkers who differentiate the Svabhāvakāya and Saṃbhogakāya from Nirmanakāya: In this sense, the view of Mugi’s pure land is not just a succession of Tiantai, but a view developing the theory of pure land not only from the perspective of perfect teaching in Tiantai, but also from the aspect of upaya while invoking the name of Amitabha Budha in a more practice-oriented way.
