摘要
The Tang dynasty is often considered as the golden age of Buddhism while various Buddhist doctrines and schools were established and flourishing. Feixi was a famous Buddhist master in doctrinal study at that time. His work of Nianfo Sanmei Baowanglun 念佛三昧寶王論 (The Treatise on the Mindfulness of the Buddha as the Jewel King of Samādhi) that contains three fascicles: “mindfulness of future Buddhas,” “mindfulness of contemporary Buddha,” and “penetrating mindfulness throughout the three periods of time, none is not the Buddha”, presents his unique idea of the cultivation of nianfo samādhi. The cultivation of nianfo samādhi in the Nianfo Sanmei Baowanglun is based on two cultivations – the cultivation of Bodhisattva Never Disparaging that contained in the Lotus Sutra, and the pratyutpanna samādhi. Feixi’s integration of the doctrines and cultivations of Tiantai, Chan and Pure Land is not only has great influence to the future generation of Pure Land practice, but also sets the trend of cultivation in Buddhism.
