摘要
이 논문은 용성스님이 쓴 『覺海日輪』의 내용을 분석한 것이다. 이 분석을 시도함에 있어 필자는 동아시의 불교의 전통이라는 시야를 적용하였다. 이 책은 모두 4권으로 이루어져 있는데, 제1권과 제2권에서는 인간이란 무엇인가에 대하여 교리적으로 설명했고, 제3권에서는 참선 수행에 필요한 실천적인 방법을 설명했고, 제4권은 『육조단경』의 요점을 추려서 한글 번역하고 해설했다. 이 책의 제1권과 제2권에서 사용한 교리는 『화엄경』속에 나오는 ‘一心緣起’ 철학과, 『기신론』에 나오는 ‘一心 二門’ 철학과, 『능엄경』및 『원각경』에 나오는 ‘圓覺妙心’철학이다. 이 철학을 하나의 용어로 표시하면 ‘法性의 철학’이다. 그리고 3권과 4권에서는 간화선 수행에 필요한 ‘의심’의 중요성을 강조하고 있다. 용성의 이런 사상은 동북아시아 특히 중국과 한국의 전통적인 불교 역사와 그 맥락을 같이하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 그의 이런 사상을 이런 전통 위에서 사상사적 위치를 분명하게 했다. 용성스님이 동아시적인 법성의 철학을 수용하게 된 출발점은 자신의 선불교적인 체험에서 시작한다. 이런 선불교적인 체험을 바탕으로, 용성스님은 당시 한국에 유행하는 법성의 철학 체계로 구축된 전통 강원의 이력을 본다. 이렇게 이력을 보면서 터득한 자신의 철학을 그는 ‘大覺思想’이라고 이름 붙였다. 그리하여 그는 일생을 통하여 이 ‘大覺思想’을 보급하는 운동을 펼쳤다.
The thesis which is the analysis of The Kak-hie-il-ryun; 覺海日輪 by Bek, yiong-sung; 白龍城(1864-1940) who were a monk. As the practice through the analysis, it is used traditional sight of East-Asia Buddhism. The book is consist of 4 volumes, the first and second volume: explain about "What is the human-bing?" through Buddhist doctrine method, the third volume: explain about practical method of Zen-meditation, the forth volume: translate and interpretation of The yuzutuanjing; 六祖壇經 from the focus. The using theory of the first and second volume that 'The philosophy of 'Yixinyuanqi; 一心緣起'of The Huayanjing; 華嚴經 and 'The philosophy of One mind's two dimension; 一心二門' of The Qixinlun; 起信論, also 'The philosophy of Pure Mind; 圓覺妙心'of The lengyanjing; 楞嚴經 and The yuanjiaojing; 圓覺經. These philosophy indicate of the one term which is called 'The dharmatā philosophy; 法性哲學'. And the third and forth volume that emphasize 'doubt' of the needs to 'The kanhua-meditation; 看話禪' ptactice. The idea of Bek, yiong-sung is equally blows East-North Asia especially China and Korea traditional Buddhism history. The thesis tried that his idea located over above tradition clearly. The start of accommodation about East-Asiatic 'The dharmatā philosophy; 法性哲學' by Bek, yiong-sung which is following personal experience of Zen-Buddhism, he had finished the traditional buddhist academy's curriculum at that time in korea. As the getting theory of finishing master, he is called 'Dai-kag-sa-sang; 大覺思想'. Therefore he was come into spread all over that sang throughout his whole life.
