In the early 1900 s, German expedition teams looted large amounts of murals from the Kizil Grottoes, most of which are collected in the Museum of Asian Art( Museum für Asiatische Kunst), Berlin. The records made by the expedition teams to the original locations of these murals had some errors. In recent years, the Xinjiang Kucha Academy and Museum of Asian Art, Berlin cooperatively conducted comprehensive survey to the murals of Kizil Grottoes collected in this museum, and confirmed the original grottoes from which most of these murals were taken away and their original positions in these grottoes by onsite observation and one-by-one matching, which provided convenient conditions for the relevant researches.
