摘要
본 논문은 불법연구회의 ‘일원팔괘도(一圓八卦圖)’의 의미를 『주역』의 역철학적 해석을 통해, ‘우주만유의 본원’으로서의 일원(一圓)이 갖는 형이상학적 의미를 고찰하였다. 원불교 신앙의 대상이며 수행의 표본인 ‘우주만유의 본원’으로서의 일원이 갖는 절대적이고 초월적인 형이상학적 의미가 망각되면, 원불교 신앙과 수행에 대한 이론적 담론뿐만 아니라 실천적 행위 역시 경험적이고실증적인 차원으로 전락할 수 있다. 소태산의 대각에 근거 둔 일원팔괘도는 ‘천지신명(天地神明)’의 자각을 통해형상화 된 것으로, 역도(易道)의 표상체계인 팔괘도의 형이상학적 의미를 담고있다. 특히 『주역』의 팔괘와 달리 팔괘의 그림을 둥글게 만들어 전체적으로 원(圓)으로 상징화하였다. 이는 원불교의 핵심적 진리인 일원상(一圓相)의 진리를표상하기 위한 것이다. 일원팔괘도는 역도(易道)의 내용인 천·지·인(天地人) 삼재지도를 표상하고 있으며, 또 태극(太極, 무극(无極))·음양(陰陽)·사상(四 象)·팔괘(八卦)를 온전히 담고 있다. 본 연구를 통해 일원팔괘도와 『주역』의 팔괘도와의 상관관계를 알 수 있으며, 일원팔괘도가 표상하는 역도(易道)의 상징적 의미가 밝혀지게 되었다. 일원팔괘도와 『주역』의 팔괘의 관계를 검토하는 것은 원불교 교법과의 유사성을 확인하는 것에 그치지 않고 원불교 교법 및 교리의 형식, 체계, 내용을 종합적으로 검토하는 데 유용할 것이다. 특히 역도와 원불교의 교법 및 교리와 비교 고찰하는 데 있어 ‘성인은 반드시 우주의 진리를 응하여 인간의 법도를 제정한다’는 정산 송규(宋奎, 1900~1962)의 법문이 핵심 열쇠가 될 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the metaphysical meaning of Ilwon(一圓) as the 'origin of all things in the universe' through reverse philosophical interpretation of the meaning of the eight trigrams of 'Ilwon Eight Trigrams' of the Buddhist Research Society. If the absolute and transcendental metaphysical meaning of a member as the 'origin of the universe', the object of Won-Buddhist faith and a model of practice, is forgotten, not only theoretical discourses on Won-Buddhist beliefs and practices, but also practical actions will be reduced to an empirical and empirical dimension. Ilwon Eight Trigrams, based on the great angle of Sotaesan, is embodied through the awareness of the ‘God of Heaven and Earth’, and contains the metaphysical meaning of Eight Trigrams, a representational system of Yidao(易道). In particular, unlike the eight trigrams of I-Ching , the picture of the eight trigrams was made round and symbolized as a circle as a whole. This is to represent the truth of one circle, the core truth of Won Buddhism. Ilwon Eight Trigrams represents the way of Heaven, Human, and Earth, which are the contents of Yidao. It contains all four signs and eight trigrams. Examining the relationship between Ilwon Eight Trigrams and the Eight Trigrams of I-Ching will be useful for comprehensively examining the form, system, and content of Won-Buddhist doctrine and doctrine, not confined to confirming similarities with Won-Buddhist doctrine. In particular, in comparing and examining the relationship between the way of Heaven and Human with the teachings and doctrines of Won-Buddhism, JeongSan's dharma statement that 'sages must enact human laws in response to the truth of the universe' can be a key.
