During the Wu Zhou Reign，Mahayana’s Buddhist thought was spread from the ancient Silk Road and influenced the capital city culture represented by Chang’an and Luoyang, which had a profound impact on the humanistic spirit of the scholars at that time. Especially Wu Zetian believed in Buddhism, who led the court literati to participate in religious activities and compose poems, so as to deepen the Buddhist philosophy into their heart. It can be said that there would be no such splendid literary situation described by Zhang Yue or the coming literary peak of the flourishing period of Tang Dynasty without a series of measures taken by Wu Zetian in the half century to worship Buddhism and emphasize literature as a foreshadowing.
