For over two thousand years, Buddhism has manifested in various schools with differences in teachings, practices, and doctrines. However, among them, the Pure Land school stands out for its simplicity and ease of practice, ensuring unwavering commitment to enlightenment. Emphasizing methods such as visualization, contemplation, and mindful recitation of the Buddha's name, the Pure Land tradition fosters a transition from self-benefit, characteristic of the Lesser Vehicle, to the altruistic aspirations of the Greater Vehicle. Its core principles revolve around faith, aspiration, and practice, facilitating accessible pathways to attain Buddhahood. This approach accommodates the diverse capacities of beings in the Dharma-ending age, providing a universally accepted means for all to attain rebirth in the Pure Land and ultimately achieve enlightenment. An Le Miao Bao,compiled by lay practitioner Jin Huichang in the early years of the Republic of China, predominantly focuses on esoteric tantric practices yet ultimately leads practitioners towards Pure Land devotion. Within this text, the principles of faith, aspiration, and practice inherent to the Pure Land tradition are presented through methods of self-power and other-power, along with the integration of exoteric and esoteric practices, emphasizing single-minded recitation of the Buddha's name, ritualistic offerings, chanting, and contemplative visualization. Despite its relatively short existence, An Le Miao Bao serves as a guide to Pure Land practice, drawing from both esoteric and exoteric traditions, with the ultimate goal of attaining joy and realizing the Pure Land.
