トルポパの説く基体(gzhi):『山法了義大海』と『現観荘厳論註』を中心として=The Foundation (gzhi) as Described by Dol po pa: Focusing on the Ri chos nges don rgya mtsho and His Commentary on the Abhisamayālaṃkāra
The Tibetan words gzhi lam ’bras gsum (the three, i.e., ground, path, and fruition) are usually regarded as being used in the same sense as the Sanskrit words viṣaya, prayoga, and phala (scope, practice, and fruition). However, Dol po pa Shes rab rgyal mtshan (1292–1361) does not always use gzhi as viṣaya in either his main work, the Ri chos nges don rgya mtsho (RNG), or his commentary on the Abhisamayālaṃkāra (DDT). Some examples that cannot be interpreted as “scope” are provided.
Analysis shows that the usage of gzhi in RNG encompasses all stages of religious training from ordinary individuals to the Buddha, and it is distinguished into four types: base type, fruition type, path type, and impurity type. In contrast, while there is a base type in the usage of gzhi in DDT, there is no fruition type, and the usage corresponding to “scope,” in the form of “wisdom in which the base and fruition cannot be distinguished,” is prominent.
