체질론은 일반적 상식의 수준에서도 유통되지만, 의학분야에서는 효율적 건강관리의 측면에서 연구되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 체질의학에 대한 내용분석을 통하여 아유르베다와 불교의 관점을 대조함으로써 몸이라는 대상을 파악하는 사유 방식을 점검한다. 특히 고대인도의 전통의학인 아유르베다에서는 3구나와 3도샤의 개념을 바탕으로 인체를 규명하면서 체질의학으로 전개되었다. 특히 아유르베다 학파 가운데 외과학을 중심으로 발달하였던 수슈르타 학파는 3도샤에 따른 체질을 제시하는 일반적 관행을 넘어서 천상계와 지상계라는 2부류를 첨가하여 5종 유형의 인간체질론을 제시하였다. 이로써 인도수비학의 전형 가운데 하나인 5수 분화체계를 지향하며 5대 체질론(pañca-mahābhautika)을 제시한다. 또한 수슈르타 학파는 물질적 우주론을 인체에 상응하기 위해 도입된 개념인 혈액(rakta) 체질의 첨가 이후 kapha-pitta-vāta-rakta의 4체질설을 확정하여 제시한다. 이로써 수슈르타 상히타는 4체액설, 4체질설, 4성격유형론 등 여타의 4요소설이 가지는 보편성을 획득하는 기반을 마련하게 되었다. 이 점은 3체질론의 설명방식과 4체질론의 이론이 상호 경쟁하는 과정에서 궁극적으로 4체질론이 보편성을 획득한 것이다. 이점에서 수슈르타 학파의 실증적 관점은 불교의학의 실천적 태도와 친연성을 보여준다고 하겠다. 불교의 선경 문헌 <좌선삼매경>과 <수행도지경> 등은 선정수행의 실천과 종교성을 제시하며 실증적 태도를 보여주고 있다. 특히 수행의 방편을 행자의 기질에 따라 제시함으로써 체질의학에서 실천적 접근의 입장은 확연하다. 탐진치의 3독 개념을 바탕으로 전개되는 불교 체질의학은 아유르베다의 물질적 세계관과 달리 심리적 측면으로 서술되는 특징이 있다. <좌선삼매경>은 3독 개념을 중심으로 심리와 체형을 분석하여 제시하고 있다. 또한 <수행도지경>의 경우 심리적 특성은 물론 이에 따른 신체적 성향 등을 상세하게 제시하여 19 유형을 상세하게 제시함은 물론 이에 따른 수행의 내용을 안내하고 있다.
This study examines the way of thinking about the body by contrasting the views of Āyurveda and Buddhism through the content analysis of constitution medicine. In Āyurveda, a traditional medicine of ancient India, it was developed as a constitution medicine by identifying the human body based on the concept of 3guṇa and 3doṣa. Among the Āyurveda schools, the Suśruta school developed five types of human constitution by adding two classes of pārthiva (地界) & nābhasa (天界) systems beyond the general practice of presenting constitution according to the 3doṣa systems. In this way, we aim for the five- differentiation system, one of the typical examples of Indian numerology, and present the five constitutions (pañca-mahābhautika). In addition, the Suśruta school presents the four constitutions of kapha-pitta-vāta-rakta after the addition of the blood (rakta) constitution, a concept introduced to correspond to the material cosmology. This led Suśruta Saṃhitā to lay the groundwork for acquiring the universality of other four-factor theories such as four-body theory, four-constitution theory. This point is that the four constitutions ultimately gained universality in the process of the competition between the three constitutions and the four constitutions. In this sense, the empirical viewpoint of the Suśruta school shows the practical attitude and affinity of Buddhist medicine. Buddhism's Zen Scriptures (禪經), Zuochansanmeijing (『坐禪三昧經』) Xiuxingdaodijing (Skt., Yogacārabhūmi, 『修行道地經』) show empirical attitudes by presenting the mode of bhāvana (修習) and religiousity. Particularly, the position of practical approach in constitution medicine is clear by suggesting the means of practice according to the temperament. Buddhist constitution medicine, which is based on the concept of three poisons (3毒), is characterized by psychological aspects, unlike Āyurveda's material worldview. Tso ch'an san Mei ching analyzes the psychology and body shape based on the concept of three poisons(3毒). In addition, in the case of Xiuxingdaodijing’ 19 types are presented in detail as well as the psychological characteristics and physical inclinations, and the contents of the performance are guided.
