불교의 모든 수행은 사바세계의 중생이 안고 있는 온갖 고통과 인생무상에 대한 통절한 인식에서 출발한다. 따라서 그것을 벗어나는 해탈을 추구하는 데 수행의 목적이 있다. 극락세계로의 왕생을 구하는 일 또한 이에서 벗어나지 않는다. 다른 것이 있다면, 아미타불의 본원력이 함께한다는 점에서 타력문이라 하고 易行門이라 하는 것이다. 본 논문은 백암성총의 정토사상, 즉 염불수행의 관점을 그의 『백암정토찬』 100수의 시문에 나타난 내용을 분석하여 도출한 것이다. 『백암정토찬』 100수의 시에 나타난 백암의 정토수행은 크게 세 가지로 정리할 수 있다. 무엇보다 그는 전체적으로 타방정토에 왕생하는 사상을 크게 드러내고 있다. 그의 많은 시에 나타난 극락세계에 대한 다양한 묘사들이 이를 증명한다. 그 다음으로 백암은 一念의 어지럽지 않은 염불수행을 주장한다. 물론 십념을 비롯한 여러 번의 염불을 표출한 시구가 없는 것은 아니지만, 그의 궁극적 의도는 그렇게 생각된다. 이는 그가 편찬한 『정토보서』와 그 궤를 같이 하는 것이다. 마지막으로 그는 최후의 수행으로 정토염불수행을 권장하고 자신도 그렇게 수행하겠다는 다짐을 여러 시구를 통해 드러내고 있다. 그는 강석을 열어 경전을 강의하였고, 참선도 하였다. 이 책 『정토찬』에 정토를 찬양한 많은 시가 있다하여 그를 선뜻 정토가로 분류할 수 없는 이유이기도 하다. 하지만 그는 그의 남은 생의 수행으로 염불왕생을 선택하였고, 또 다른 이에게도 다른 수행으로 멀리 돌아가지 말고 바로 염불수행을 할 것을 누누이 당부하고 있는 것이다.

Baekam's performance in the city of Jeongtochan(『淨土讚』) can be summarized into three major parts. More than anything else, he reveals a lot of ideas about other cultures as a whole. His various representations of the world of paradise in many poems prove this. Then, Baekam insists on performing the unimpeachable chant at all times. Of course, there are many verses expressing the Buddhist chant, including the Ten Transgressions, but his ultimate intention seems to be the same. This was in conjunction with the ark of Jeshithophus, which he had compiled. Finally, he encourages the Buddhist monk to perform as a final act and reveals his commitment to do so through many verses. He opened up a lecture on the holy book, and was also a reader. This book, "Jeongtochan" contains many poems praising Jeongto, which is why we can not readily categorize him as Junto. However, he chose the Buddhist monk for the rest of his life, and he is constantly asking others to conduct the chant immediately rather than go back to the other.
