Abstruct: The Yiwen zhi 藝文志 section of the Song History includes the bieji 別集 and zongji 總集 catalogs of works by Buddhist monks (Shi shi釋氏). Altogether they contain 65 collections in 359 fascicles. These catalogs contain materials dating from the Jin to Song dynasties. They preserve lists of works by monks which are no longer extant, and are therefore of great value for research on poems written by monks. Because the Song History’s records are overly brief and sometimes contain errors, the author has done further research to verify the information in these Song History Buddhist catalogs. This includes checking other Buddhist catalogs from various periods, Buddhist histories and biographies; doing further investigation into their transmission and disappearance, discrepancies in the number of fascicles, and authors’ biographies.
