This thesis investigates: the Buddhist Monastic Discipline according to the Vinaya, the Chinese Buddhist Monastic Regulations, and the significance of both regulations in the Present Sangha Order. Five major topics are considered; the Sangha Organization and Administration, the sangha Jurisprudence System; the Sangha Education System; the Sangha Economic system; and the interaction of sangha with the society. Holding the aspirations of the Vinaya and the Six Harmonious Priciples as its guidem, the analysis highlights the significance and possible applications of the two systems in this modern time and space. It is hope that this thesis may provide some references to the Present Sangha Order, and encourage the formation of rules and regulations that are more discipline, peaceful and harmony.
