The statue of the Guanyin Bodhisattva bearing the inscription‘Made in the 5th Year of the Wuguang Period by Di Xunsheng’was unearthed in the early 1950s from the ruins of Xiude Temple in Quyang.There is no Wuguang reign period in the Northern Dynasties' official histories and so there has been divided opinion on when the statue was actually made.The author establishes a typology outlining the development of single-figure Bodhisattvas with nimbus screens unearthed at Quyang and thus establishes a dating for this piece.
