Since the 1960s,increasing attention has been paid to academic studies at the Research Institute of Dunhuang Cultural Relics(today’s Dunhuang Academy).An urgent need for a periodical to publish scholarly papers about achievements at Dunhuang led to a series of publications.In 1982 the first book of papers of the Research Institute of Dunhuang Cultural Relics,a Collection of Papers on Dunhuang Studies,was published.Thereafter,continued effort led to the periodical Dunhuang Research.
