| 摘要 | 20世紀50、60年代佛教，尤其是禪宗思想在美國傳播和發展與反文化運動結合在一起，其始作俑者是“垮掉的一代”。垮掉派的作家們普遍接觸佛教，在禪佛教中為他們的不滿和反抗尋求合理的依據和方式，也為他們的文學創作尋求新的方法和思路。東西方文化由此所出現的前所未有的交融局面，為20世紀跨文化交往的研究提供了重要的個案。
During the 1950's and 1960's, the propagation of Buddhism in United States was characterized by its combination with counter-culture movements, triggered by the artists of the Beat Generation. The Beat Generation writers adopted Zen Buddhism in their revolt against anything traditional, and brought Buddhism to the American consciousness. The exploration on the relationship between the Beat Generation and Zen Buddhism sheds light on the cross-cultural study on the 20th century.
