In August 1994, scores of stone Buddhist statues were uncovered from the basement of an ancient pagoda in the Longxing Temple in the northern suburbs of Pengzhou City. Of dated ones, a double-bodied Sakyamuniis as early as the 5th year of the Zhongdatong reign period of the Southern Liang. However, most of them are survivals from the early Tang. They are represented in different ways: standing or seated, one Buddha plus two Bodhisattvas or double Bodhisattvas, etc. A few Taoist carvings were also found.
