Fa Qing, a Buddhist monk, led a riot during the years of Yanchang of Northern Wei Dynasty. It is gigantic and vigorous, and shocked the government and public because it is called "Great Vehicle" by its participants, which is called Great Vehicle Uprising in history. Academic circles usually consider Great Vehicle uprising as riot launched by Maitreya belief and understands the meaning of Great Vehicle on the basis of Mahayana Buddhism view contrasted with Theravada Buddhism. However, according to prevailing Buddhist ideology and classic background at that time, the theoretical basis for that they called "Great Vehicle" and "Great Vehicle Uprising" is not related to Maitreya belief in principle because it directly derived from the ideology about protecting doctrines, extracting from prevailing MahaParinirvana-Sutra at that time.
