摘要
The eight sects of the new ceremony in Kyoto took the lead, instead of the old eight sects, in executing the Kyoto Higashi-yama (Mt.Higashi) Daibutsu(Great Buddha)Senzo-e (Religious Ceremony by thousand Priests)(1595-1614). I wish to defer to the findings of the previous studies on the process by which the memorial services of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s grandparents became a state-sponsored ceremony. Thus, in this article, I wish to examine the same topic but based on the writings of “Yugyou” (Jishū sect of Buddhism) and of the Hongwanji Temple (Shinshū sect of Buddhism). The main historical sources on which I depend are an ancient document “Myōhōin Temple Archives” at Myōhōin Temple, which continued to manage the Kyoto Higashi-yama Daibutsu. In them, we find some letters within the “Yugyou” as well as some records written in subsequent time among the Hongwanji Temple documents. I, therefore, wish to consider all of them together in examining the topic at hand.
