Dunhuang Shi Jiedu (Interpreting Dunhuang Poems) by Wang Fanzhou is both an academic and a popular work. It includes an extensive range of unique poems, particularly eulogies to the Tang empire, poems of the Return-to-Allegiance Army period ruled by the Zhang family, and Buddhist poems. Wang Fanzhou shows unique vision and depth in commenting and interpreting the poems and pointing out previously unnoticed errors. This work provides a comprehensive interpretation of the thirty epic poems contained in Dunhuang documents and an analysis of the new systems and contents reflected by these poems, and includes the first interpretation of the poem “Yan E Feng He” as a eulogy for the Zhang family.
