Two square bricks with inscriptions dating back to the Zhengde era of the Ming dynasty have recently been found at the Binglingsi Grottoes.Presenting a comprehensive research of the two bricks,the Great Ming Stele in cave 146 from the 12 thyear of the Zhengde era,and the Ming dynasty inscriptions in the same cave,this paper discusses restoration activity undertaken during the 400 years between the Chenghua era of the Ming dynasty and the Tongzhi era of the Qing dynasty.
