Based on the investigation and analysis of water seepage and disease that occurred at the protectedsite of Dongshancun village and the physical properties particular to the viscous land on which it’s built, as well as an analysis of extant underground seepage and drainage technology, the author proposes a filling and draining method suitable for the control of underground water in the viscous land layer that would also resolve the difficult problem of dredging out phreatic water. The experiments show that this is a very efficient method for underground water control and could be effectively applied to the seepage control at both the archaeological excavation units and the site gallery.
