By summarizing the forms of the scene of " The Assembly at Vulture Peak plus the Assembly in the Air" and its development in the Lotus Sutra Illustrations at Dunhuang, this paper presents a restudy on its naming. It considers that the somewhat unusual composition was intended to create a comprehensive narrative context of the sutra illustrations and argues that the scene should not be identified as a depiction of a single chapter.
