한국불교는 세계 각국에서 유입되는 불교를 수용하는 문제와 더불어 한국불교를 어떻게 세계에 알리느냐의 두 가지 문제에 직면하고 있다. 한편으로는 각국의 불교문화가 한반도로 유입되고 있으며, 동시에 다른 한편으로는 한국불교 전통이 세계로 전파되는 문화교차 현상이 나타나고 있다. 한국불교의 세계화 접근방법으로는 국제구호 활동 전개, 지속적인 불교문화 교류, 국제포교활동 추진, 교육 및 의료기관 설립과 운영 지원, 역경사업 전개 등 다양하다. 저개발국가나 개발도상국가에 대해서는 국제구호, 교육, 의료지원 등이 활발하게 추진되는 반면에 서구의 선진국들을 대상으로 해서는 국제포교, 불교문화교류 등이 중심으로 이루고 있다. 향후 한국불교의 세계화는 세계 각국의 종교계와 교류하면서 불교에 대한 이해의 폭이 넓어질 수 있도록 노력하는 문제가 남아 있다. 이런 활동을 적극적으로 추진하려면 내부적으로 전법교화의 역량을 갖추어야 하며 동시에 인적, 물적 자원이 충분해야 한다. 그렇지만 아직도 한국불교계가 세계화와 국제교류에 적극적으로 나설 수 있는 자원과 역량은 크게 부족한 것이 현실이다. 한국불교가 미래에도 지속 가능한 발전을 도모하기 위해서는 정체성을 갖고 있으면서 동시에 세계인이 수용할 수 있는 보편성을 확보해야 한다.
This paper is for the globalization of korean buddhism. It is focused on the international activities in propagating of Jogye order and Chuntae, Jingag order. Korean Buddhism is facing two problems. One is the influx of foreign Buddhist organizations, and the other is how globalization to the Korean Buddhism. At present, foreign Buddhist groups are rapidly disseminated in Korean society. Korea Buddhism is also actively working to expand into foreign countries For the globalization of Korea Buddhism, there are a few different ways; international Relief Services, Buddhist cultural exchanges, promoting international missionary work, establishment and support of education and healthcare, and translation of Buddhist scriptures. International relief, education, health care and support is effective in developing countries. Meditation and Buddhist cultural exchanges are effective in Western industrialized countries. In the future, in order to achieve the globalization of Korea Buddhism, it should be actively and exchanges with many countries and should strive to be promoting an understanding of Buddhism. Internally, they also have the capacity of the international missionary. At the same time, they must ensure the human and material resources required for globalization. To sustainable development in the future, it must establish the identity of Korea Buddhism, at the same time, need to ensure universality that the world is acceptable.
