| 摘要 | 본 고찰은 근대불교의 고승으로 명망이 높은 석전 박한영과 방한암을 비교의 관점에서 살피려는 글이다. 지금껏 석전과 한암은 개별적, 문중적인 관점에서 연구가 수행되었다. 그 결과 이들의 생애, 사상, 성격 등은 온전하게 조명되었지만 그들이 갖고 있는 역사적 맥락, 특성 등은 소홀하게 다루어졌다. 이에 이 글에서는 그들이 수행한 행적을 중심으로 살피면서, 그를 서로간의 비교의 관점에서 특성을 대비하고자 하였다.
행적의 구체적인 내용은 수행, 교육활동, 집필활동, 종단활동 및 민족운동으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 수행에 있어서, 석전은 경학 방면에서 한암은 선학방면에서 수행을 하였다. 이것이 이들의 정체성을 대별하였다. 교육활동에 있어서, 석전이 강학 및 신구겸학의 교육기관에서 인문학적인 교육에 유의하였다면 한암은 선에 중심을 두면서 전통을 계승하는 승가교육에 유의하였다. 집필활동에 있어서, 석전은 교육⋅포교⋅인문학을 강조하는 글을 기고하였다면 한암은 선수행⋅선교겸수⋅계정혜 삼학의 강조를 위한 글을 집필하였다. 즉 석전은 후학지도와 인재양성을 한암은 수좌 및 승가의 자각을 유의하였다. 종단활동 및 민족운동에 있어서, 석전은 종단의 일선에서 한암은 산중은거에 임하면서 행보를 갔다. 그러나 불교발전, 종단수호에는 동일한 행보를 갔다.
이렇듯 석전은 중도 개량적인 노선을, 한암은 전통고수적인 보수의 노선을 걸어갔다. 그러나 이들은 자기의 정체성을 유지하면서도 당시 현실을 정면으로 대응한 지성적 행보를 구현하였다.
This dissertation is the writing to look into Sŏkjŏn Park, Hanyŏngand Bang, Hanam who are renowned for prelates of modern buddhism from a competitive point of view.
So far, there have been implemented researches on Sŏkjŏn and Hanam from the points of individual, family views. As a result of those researches, their lifetimes, thoughts, characteristics were fully given a light on though, historical context, and characteristics that they had were carelessly dealt with.
So, in this writing, I'd like to compare with characteristics from a comparative point of view between them looking mainly into the pasts that they did for practice. I searched concrete contents of their pasts dividing into practice, educational activity, writing activity, religiousactivity and racial movement.
In terms of practice, Sŏkjŏn practiced in the part of studying sutra, Hanam practiced in the part of studying Seon. This made a difference between their identifications. In educational activity, Sŏkjŏn was focusing on the humanistic education in the educational institute of Ganghak and New&Old simultaneous studies, but Hanam was focusing on Seon mainly concentrating on Sangha education succeeded to tradition. In writing activity, Sŏkjŏn was contributing to education, propagation, and the humanities, but Hanam was writing to emphasize Seon practice, Simultaneous practice of Seon and Doctrine, Precepts⋅Contemplation⋅Prajna the three supreme principles. That is, Sŏkjŏn was focusing on guiding future scholars and training talented indivisuals, but Hanam was concentrating on Seon practitioner and awareness of Sangha. In religious order and racial activity, Sŏkjŏn was working in the way of religious order, but Hanam was doing staying in a temple of mountain. But they walked together with same steps, in terms of development of Buddhism, protecting religious order.
Such like this, Sŏkjŏn was having a step on improvement in the middle of way, but Hanam was having a step on conservativeness of traditional adherence. However, they kept not only their identities, but also tried to have intelligent steps corresponding right to the reality.
