The"applied Buddhism"advocated by Tan Sitong and Liang Qichao are both aimed to save their nation and serve people by uptaking and making use of beneficial resources. However,because of variety reasons,their attitude and cognition towards this advocation are different: Mr. Tan made choices,reformed and extended to enrich the Benevolence system according to the need of realistic political conflicts,while Mr. Liang also expected to reform nationality by using Buddhism. The comparative study of Tan and Liang’s applied Buddhism can not only help us to understand the relationship between Buddhism and their respective political thoughts,but also can help us to give a glimpse of the status and role of Buddhism in the transformation of modern Chinese political thought.
