摘要
종밀(宗密)의 원융사상(圓融思想)은 주로 선교일치론(禪教一致論)과 삼교합일론(三教合一論) 두 측면으로 포괄된다. 이처럼 안으로는 불교 각 종파를 조화시키고 밖으로는 유도 양가를 회통시키는 원융론이 후세에 미친 영향은 지대하다. 원융론은 송대 영명연수(永明延壽), 명교설숭(明教契嵩), 대혜종고(大慧宗杲), 명대 자백진가(紫柏真可), 감산덕청(憨山德清), 우익지욱(蕅益智旭) 등 많은 고승들의 계승과 홍양을 거치면서 최종적으로 송명불교의 주류사조를 형성하였다. 이러한 변모의 과정은 종밀의 이론적 창조로부터 송명불교의 종교실천에 이르는 계승 관계를 분명히 구현하고 있다. 따라서 종밀의 원융론은 송명불교의 발전에 유력한 이론적 기반을 제공하였으며, 당시 불교계에 새로운 활로를 열어주었다고 할 수 있다.
Zongmi’s thought of perfect and fused together mostly includes two ways which are Coherence of Zen and the scriptures, and three religions in one. The thought of perfect and fused together which is reconciled with factions and sects inside Buddhism, and confluents Confucianism and Taoism, brings the far-reaching influence on future generations. After the succession and development of Yanshou, Qisong, Zonggao, Zhenke, Deqing, Zhixu, and many monks, the thought ultimately form the mainstream thought of the Song-ming Buddhism. This evolution process evidently embody the same strain for the theory created by Zongmi to the religious practice of the Song-ming Buddhism. Therefore, we can say that Zongmi’s thought of perfect and fused together provides a strong theoretical support for the development of the Song-ming Buddhism, and has opened up a new road for the living space of Buddhism.
