사회 경제적 변화는 불가피하게 종교조직의 재정문제에도 영향을 미친다. 산업화와 도시화로 인하여 많은 종교단체들이 조직적 성장을 이룩하였고, 재정적으로도 크게 확대되었다. 그러나 최근의 종교계는 사회경제적 변화로 인하여 활동이 위축되는 경향을 보여주고 있다. 그 결과 점차 종교조직의 재정도 영향을 받게 된다. 종교재정의 어려움은 이미 미국을 비롯한 서구 유럽의 많은 국가에서 분명하게 나타나는 현상이다. 한국의 종교조직도 앞으로 이와 유사한 영향을 받게 될 것이 분명하다. 이러한 현상은 불교계의 각 사찰에서도 예외는 아니다. 이미 많은 사찰들이 재정적 어려움에 직면하기 시작하였다. 과거보다 수입이 줄고 지출요인은 확대되었다. 극소수의 사찰들이지만 부도에 직면한 곳들도 있다. 사찰의 주 수입원은 신도들이 부정기적으로 올리는 공양물이나 공양금에 의존하는 바가 크다. 따라서 사찰의 수입원을 확보하는 것은 쉽지 않은 일이다. 여기에 기존의 폐쇄적인 사찰운영방법 만으로는 신도들의 적극적인 기여를 촉진시키기 어렵다. 사찰재정의 관리는 수입원 확보의 어려움, 투명한 지출구조 확립의 필요성, 효율적인 재정 관리 등의 과제를 안고 있다. 신도들이 자발적으로 사찰에 재화를 기진할 수 있도록 하느냐가 향후 사찰재정 관리의 관건이다. 사찰재정의 관리는 결국 신도들이 감동하고, 자발적으로 동참하고 기여할 수 있는 방안을 찾는데 모아져야 한다. 그리고 그렇게 형성된 재화를 사회적으로 유용하게 사용함으로써 지지기반을 확보하고 지속가능한 전법포교활동을 전개할 수 있어야만 사찰재정이 확대 발전할 수 있다. 이러한 점을 간과한다면 재화는 축적하였지만 신도가 없는 사찰이 되거나 신도도 없고 재정도 고갈되는 사찰이 될 수도 있다. 신도들이 활발하게 활동하면서 십시일반 기진된 재화로 사찰재정을 운영하고 이를 효율적으로 활용함으로써 포교성과를 확대시키는 정상적인 사찰관리 방안에 대하여 사찰의 주지스님들을 비롯하여 사부대중 모두가 관심을 기울여야 한다.

The industrialization and urbanization contributed on a large scale in organized growth and financial magnification of religious organization. But, the finance of religious organization is abridged recently. Caused the actual condition where the socio-economical crisis is like this. It is because undergoing an influence in socio-economical crisis. The crisis of religious finance, already Western Europe including the United States from the many nation, clearly is an actual condition which appears Like this the religion of Korea to make an influence undergo and clear. This is not the exception. Buddhist temple of Korea. The already many Buddhist temples financial to being difficult, confronted. Compared in past, the income decreased and the expenses was magnified. The minimum number of the Buddhist temples confronted in bankruptcy. The Buddhist temple income is very irregular and small scale. It is because depends mainly in offering where the believers are irregular. Thus it is difficult to secure the income of the Buddhist temple. The cause is occlusive for the Buddhist temple operation. So, does not promote the active contribution of the believers. The voluntary participation and active contribution of the believers, for a Buddhist temple financial extension from, are necessary. Must seek like this method. And the financial expenses which is useful socially is demanded. Also to security the base of social support and to continue the missionary work is necessary. If overlooks like this point, there is not a believer in the Buddhist temple, or, the finance could be depleted. The Buddhist monks and the believers all must take an interest about efficient financial expenses and effective missionary work method.
