摘要
사찰은 지역사회를 떠나서는 존립할 수 없기에 지역사회와 사찰이 상의상관(相依相關)할 수 있는 포교방안의 수립이 필요하다. 본고에서는 도시 사찰[한마음선원(안양시)과 해남사(울산광역시)]과 농어촌 사찰[삼화사(동해시)와 정토사(당진시)]에 대한 정성조사와 정량조사를 실시 후 도시와 농어촌 사찰이 지역과 친화할 수 있는 포교방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 표본사찰의 선정과 그 서면·방문 조사는 대한불교조계종 포교원의 협조와 행정지원에 의하여 이루어졌다. 연구결과, 현행 도시와 농어촌 사찰들의 지역친화방안은 구체적인 시행방법에 있어서는 차이가 있었으나 큰 틀에서는 문화와 복지 분야로 범주화할 수 있었다. 다만 농어촌 사찰의 경우는 환경[생명] 살리기 운동과 농촌경제 활성화[일자리 창출]도 지역친화 측면에서 이루어지고 있었다. 이에 필자는 문화와 복지를 중심으로 한 ‘생활 공동체운동’과 환경과 농촌경제를 중심으로 한 ‘생태 공동체운동’으로 대별하여 지역친화 포교방안을 도출하였다. 보다 구체적으로 살펴보면, 생활 공동체운동 중 문화 분야에서는 문화센터와 문화행사를, 복지의 측면에서는 노인복지, 아동복지, 실직자 및 노숙인 복지를 제시하였다. 그리고 생태 공동체 운동 중 환경 분야에서는 자연환경보호운동과 생명농업운동[친환경유기농업]을, 농촌경제 분야에서는 마을기업과 영농조합법인, 그리고 도-농 사찰 간 직거래운동을 제시하였다.
As Buddhist temples can not exist isolated from the community, propagation plans, in which the community and the Buddhist temples have interdependent relationships, need to be established. In this thesis, propagation plans in which urban and rural Buddhist temples can have cordial relationships with the community were formulated by conducting a qualitative and quantitative study on urban Buddhist temples (Hanmaum Seon Center, Anyang City; Haenamsa, Ulsan Metropolitan City) and rural Buddhist temples (Samhwasa, Donghae City; Jungtosa, Dangjin City). The selection of sample Buddhist temples and the conduct of written and visiting surveys were accomplished with the cooperation of and administrative support from the Bureau of Missionary Activities in the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The results of this research showed differences in the concrete operating methods of ways to establish cordial relationships between urban and rural Buddhist temples and the community, but in the broad framework, they were categorized into the cultural and welfare fields. In the rural Buddhist temples, however, an environment-(life)-saving movement and rural-economy vitalization (job creation) were being carried out in the community-friendly aspect. Accordingly, community-friendly propagation plans were derived, which were categorized into a “life-care community movement” centering on culture and welfare and an ecological community movement centering on the environment and the rural economy. More specifically, in the cultural field of the living-care community movement, cultural centers and events were presented, and in the welfare aspect, the welfare of the aged, children, unemployed, and homeless people was presented. In the life field of the ecological community movement, the natural-environment protection and bio-farming (environment-friendly organic farming) movements were presented, and in the economic field, village enterprise-farming association cooperation as well as a movement for direct dealing between urban-rural Buddhist temples were presented.
