摘要
사찰은 불교라는 특정한 종교시설인 동시에, 연간 수천만의 내·외국인이 찾는 한국문화를 대표하는 공공재이다. 그러므로 문화적인 관점에서 접근한 불교포교는, 불교의 강점을 살린 가장 합리적이고 효율적인 포교방법이라고 하겠다. 본고는 전통사찰을 활용한 문화포교의 효율적인 방법론에 관해 모색한 것이다. 이를 위해서 제Ⅱ장의 ‘동선활용(動線活用)과 스토리텔링’에서는 전통사찰의 동선문제를 지적하고 효율적인 동선 확보와 이를 스토리텔링을 통해서 연결할 수 있는 방안에 대해 모색해 보았다. 이러한 방법을 통해서 내방객은 사찰에 머무는 시간이 길어지게 되는데, 이는 당연히 소비를 촉발하고 친밀감을 높이는 효과를 가져오게 된다. 다음으로 제Ⅲ장의 ‘사회적인 열린 접근’에서는, 각 사찰의 특징에 따른 다양성의 확보와 사찰일과(寺刹日課) 시간의 문제점에 대해 지적하고 이의 개선방안을 제시해보았다. 특히 현재와 같은 사찰일과인 오전 3시에 기상에서 밤 9시에 취침하는 문화는, 현대의 도시인들과의 관계에서 가장 큰 걸림돌이 되고 있다. 그러므로 이 부분은 시급히 개선되어야 할 필요가 있다. 문화는 인간에게 있어서 가장 쉽고 친근하면서도 가장 넓은 외연을 확보하는 최상의 기재이다. 이런 점에서 문화포교는 우리의 전통문화를 대표하는 불교적인 관점에서 가장 중요하고 역점이 되어야할 부분이다. 그러므로 이와 같은 연구노력은, 현대사회 속의 불교좌표 및 포교라는 관점에서 충분한 연구의 타당성을 확보한다.
The temple is not only a specific religious facility for Buddhism but also a public asset representing the Korean culture to domestic and overseas tourists. Therefore, the Buddhist propagation in respect of cultural viewpoint can be said to be the most reasonable and efficient propagation way that uses the strong points of Buddhism. The purpose of this paper is to find out the efficient methodology of cultural propagation by using the traditional temples. For this, Chapter II ‘Use of Flow Line and Story Telling’ deals with the flow lines of traditional temples, suggesting the way to secure the more efficient flow lines and to connect them with the story telling. Through this, the visitors can stay longer in the temple, which naturally promotes their consumption in the temple and their intimacy with the temple. Next, Chapter III ‘Social Open Approach’ tells about the way to secure the diversity according to characteristics of each temple and the problem in temple schedule along with its solution. Presently, the temple schedule starts with getting up at 3 AM and ends with sleeping at 9 PM. This life pattern is a stumbling block for modern civil people. Therefore, it should be improved as soon as possible. Culture is the best device to approach human beings very easily and intimately, securing the widest outskirts. In this respect, the cultural propagation should be the most important and emphatic point in the view point of Buddhism that represents the Korean traditional culture. Therefore, this kind of study can be said to have sufficient academic validity in respect of Buddhist propagation and orientation in the modern society.
