摘要
응송(應松)은 1937년부터 1954년까지 해남 대흥사 주지를 역임했다. 1950년대부터 불교계 정화운동이 본격화되면서 대처승이었던 응송은 비구들로부터 쫓겨나다시피 대흥사를 떠나게 되었는데, 당시 대흥사에 있던 고서와 문서도 함께 들고 나왔다. 응송은 말년에 이르러 관리하던 고서와 문서들을 오래전부터 인연이 있었던 백운(白雲)에게 물려주었다. 백운은 수십 년 간 응송 소장본을 관리하다가 2011년에 동국대 불교학술원에 조사를 허락하였다. 본고는 당시 조사된 응송 소장본의 목록을 소개함으로써 본격적인 연구를 위한 토대를 마련하는데 목적이 있다. 응송 소장본은 크게 세 가지로 나뉜다. 첫 번째 초의의순이 소장하던 유품, 두 번째 표충사(表忠祠) 관련 문서를 비롯하여 대흥사에서 소장하고 있던 각종 사지(寺誌) 자료, 세 번째 조선시대에 간행되거나 필사된 불교고서이다. 초의의순이 소장하던 유품의 대부분은 가흥대장경인데, 1681년의 태풍으로 표류해온 중국상선에 의해 전래된 불서로 추정된다. 사지 자료는 『대둔사지(大芚寺誌)』, 『진불암지(眞佛庵誌)』를 비롯하여 표충원과 대흥사 재정 관련 문서 및 인근 사찰의 사적기가 많았다. 그리고 조선시대 불교고서는 목판본과 필사본이 다수 있는데, 필사본은 불전사기류(佛典私記類)가 많았다. 이러한 문헌들은 대흥사를 둘러싼 조선후기 불교를 이해하는데 매우 중요한 자료이므로 향후 세밀한 연구가 요구된다.
The monk Eungsong (應松) served as the abbot of Daeheungsa Temple (大興 寺) in Haenam from 1937 to 1954. However, Eungsong, a married monk, was expelled from the temple when the Buddhist Purification Movement was carried out in the 1950s. Eungsong brought Buddhist texts stored in the temple with him and bequeathed them to the monk Baekun (白雲), the abbot of Mireuksa Temple (彌勒寺) in Busan. In 2011, the Academy of Buddhist Studies, Dongguk University was allowed to examine them, which had been preserved intact in Baekun’s collection. This study aims to provide a platform for full-scale examination in the future by introducing a list of these texts, mostly Buddhist texts and historical records of the pre-modern period. The texts in the former collection of Eungsong is classified into three main categories. The first category pertains to pre-modern Buddhist texts left by the monk Uisun (意恂). Most of them are Chinese texts originally included in the Jiaxing Tripitaka (嘉興大藏經), which was transmitted to the Korean peninsula when Chinese merchant ships were wrecked by the storm in 1681. The second category is historical records of the Daeheungsa Temple and other temples nearby. It includes financial documents related to the Pyochungsa (表忠祠) and Daehuengsa Temple and temple gazetteers like Daedunsazi (大芚寺誌) and Jinbulamji (眞佛庵誌). The third category corresponds to Buddhist xylographs and manuscripts dating from the late Joseon Dynasty. It includes a distinctive genre of Buddhist texts, called individual records on the Buddhist texts (佛典私記), which is included in the Buddhist education curriculum of the time. These texts provide important information on both the Daehuengsa Temple and Buddhism in the late Joseon Dynasty. It is expected that these materials would receive scholarly attention they deserve in the future.
