唯識宗本經:《解深密經》思想的初探=A Preliminary Study of Concepts in Noble Sūtra of The Explanation of The Profound Secrets, The Fundamental Sūtra of Consciousness-Only School
唯識宗=Yogachara (Consciousness-Only School); 解深密經=Noblesūtra of the Explanation of the Profound Secrets; 阿陀那識=ādāna-vijñāna; 阿賴耶識=ālaya-vijñāna; 境行果=sthāna-carya-phala
Noble sūtra of the Explanation of the Profound Secrets (hereafter referred to as Noble sūtra) is the most fundamental classic of Yogachara (Consciousness-Only School). Because the Sanskrit version of Noble sutra is lost, the research of most classification of Buddha's teaching is based on Chinese and Tibetan translation. This thesis analyzes the content of each chapter to display the objectives and significance of Noble sūtra, while the focus is on the Mind, Thought, Perception, and Marks Chapter. Noble sūtra is one of the six key sutras that Yogachara is based on, and is also the basis of important doctrines of consciousness-only study. The doctrines including the Two Truths, the Three Marks of Existence, the Absence of Three Natures, the Non-existence of External States, and the Ultimate of Three Vehicles are established on Noble sūtra.Noble sutracovers many essential concepts of consciousness-only study, and thus plays a leading role in classification of Buddha's teaching. Noble sūtracomments on the transmigration of the subject of life, “The ādāna-vijñāna is very deep and subtle; all potentials are like a torrential flow. I do not explain this to the ignorant, for fear they will get the idea it is self.” In Buddhism, the “mind,thought, and perception” belongs to psychological activity and its definition constantly varies according to occasions. Some scholars argue that there is no trace of the Eighth Consciousness ālaya-vijñāna; some scholars are of the opinion that the Seventh Consciousness mānas-vijñāna does not exist. Either way, most discussion surrounds ālaya-vijñāna and mānas-vijñāna. How doesNoble sūtra bring up arguments of ādāna-vijñāna?What is the stance of related basic theories? These points are also included in this thesis.
