This paper discusses Chinese traditional art spirit embodied in Dunhuang wall paintings from three aspects:1) Dunhuang wall paintings exhibit historical scenes of the society by the aid of Buddhist contents, and reflects how people understood and thought about the real society at that time; 2)Dunhuang wall paintings are all inclusive. They comprehensively represent people and scenes like landscapes and architecture, which are characteristic of scattered perspective and create grand and powerful visual impact; 3)Dunhuang wall paintings reflect the spirit of “six laws”of Chinese traditional painting, which include living spirit and charm, strength of strokes, vividness, proper coloration, rational composition, and accurate copying.
