摘要
본고에서는 오늘날 한국불교 신행전통이 조선후기의 통합불교적 성격에서 비롯되었음을 밝혔다. 수행적인 측면에서는 경절문(徑截門)·원돈문(圓頓門)·염불문(念佛門)의 삼문수학(三門修學)이 그 원형이고, 신앙적인 측면에서는 불보살 예경과 민간신앙의 습합에서 찾았다. 삼문수학은 조선후기이래 가장 기본적인 불교수행의 내용으로서 경절문의 간화선 수행과 원돈문의 경전공부, 그리고 염불문의 염불 수행이다. 불보살 예경은 불교 전래로부터 이어온 것인데, 조선후기 민간신앙과 결합되면서 기복신앙적인 모습이 강화되었다. 이는 조선후기에 이르러 사찰 경내에 칠성각이나 산신각의 건립이 보편화되는데서 확인 할 수 있다. 그런데 물질문명의 발전과 사회의 변화, 그리고 남방 불교의 전래 등으로 인해 수행의 방법에 있어서 변화를 요구받고 있다. 이로써 어떻게 간화선과 염불 수행을 계승 발전시킬 수 있을 것인가? 라는 과제에 직면해 있다. 그리고 전근대시대까지 한자를 읽을 수 있는 승려의 전유물이었던 경전공부가 이제는 거의 모든 불교 신도가 언제든지 공부할 수 있는 여건이 되면서 전문가로서의 승려 교육 방법도 바뀌어야 하는 상황이 되었다. 신앙에 있어서도 불교 본래적 모습의 회복과 더불어 기복신앙과의 모순을 어떻게 극복할 것인가? 라는 과제가 주어져 있다. 한국불교의 전통을 계승해야 하는 것은 오늘날 불교인이 해결해야 할 과제이다. 그 과제를 해결하기 위해서는 우선 한국불교의 신행 전통을 잘 이해할 필요가 있다. 그리고 그 이해의 바탕 위에 현재와 미래의 사회적 변화에 적합한 계승의 방향 설정이 중요하다. 수행의 다변화, 교육의 현대화, 신앙의 재정립이 요구된다.
This manuscript was defined that the tradition of religious beliefs in Korean Buddhism on these days began with unified character in the late Joseon Dynasty. Three gate discipline of Gyeongjeolmun(徑截門), Wondonmun(圓頓門) and Yeombulmun(念佛門) is the original form in regard to something performative. Moreover, it can be found in Buddha Bodhisattva worship and convergence of the folk beliefs as spiritual aspect. Three gate discipline has been the most fundamental content of Buddhist performance which is Ganhwaseon(看話禪) of Gyeongjeolmun, Buddhist scriptures of Wondonmun and Buddhist prayer of Yeombulmun since the late Joseon Dynasty. Buddha Bodhisattva worship had inherited a tradition from the introduction of Buddhism and it strengthened as the form of faith for blessing by combining with the folk beliefs in the Late Jeseon Dynasty. That can be confirmed that the construction of Chilsunggak(七星閣) or Sansingak(山神閣) had been generalized in a temple compound by the late Joseon Dynasty. However, we are being required alteration in performative way owing to development of material civilization, social change, introduction of Nambang Buddhism and so on. We are hereby faced with the task how we can succeed and develop Ganhwaseon and Buddhist prayer performance. In addition, Buddhist education that was exclusive property of Buddhist monks who could read chinese character until pre-modern period became the situation that should be changed with education method of Buddhist monks as expert. This is the reason why almost Buddhists can study and conduct research whenever they want at present. We also have a task how we can overcome not only restoration of original form in Buddhism but also contradiction with the faith for blessing as religious beliefs. Inheriting the traditional heritage of Korean Buddhism is a assignment that Buddhists have to solve nowadays. At first, we need to understand the tradition of religious beliefs in Korean Buddhism well in order to solve that. Moreover, it is important to set up the successional direction which is appropriate for social change of the here and the hereafter based on the comprehension. It is required the diversification of performance, modernization of education and reestablishment of religious beliefs.
