There are three major research fields in Chinese religious history, namely, the traditional religions before the introduction of Buddhism into China, the foreign religions represented by Buddhism, and the folk religions or beliefs. In the process of research,it is important to clarify the relationship between official religion and folk religion, and the relationship between native religion and foreign religion, especially to understand that the characteristics of the relationship between official religion and folk religion is an interaction between Yin and Yang. And it is necessary to have a religious view in conformity with Chinese culture,i. e.,to regard the notion of humanistic religion as the core category, which focuses on the educational or teaching function as religious ultimate concern,on the basis of the experience of stimulus-response between a person and those mysterious forces or things.
