摘要
본고는 알람카라 학파의 선구자 바마하(Bhāmaha, 7세기경)의 『카비야알람카라』(Kāvyālaṃkāra, 이하 KA) 제2장에 나타나는 ‘의미의 수사법’(arthālaṃkāra)의 정의 및 적용례에 대해 이해하고, 초기 수사법의 분류에 대해 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 바마하는 KA 제2~3장에 걸쳐 총 34가지의 수사법을 제시하고 있는데, 그 가운데 32가지가 ‘의미의 수사법’에 해당한다. 본고에서는 그중 제2장에 할당된 9가지 의미의 수사법, 즉 ①루파카(rūpaka), ②디파카(dīpaka), ③우파마(upamā), ④아크셰파(ākṣepa), ⑤아르탄타라니야사(arthāntaranyāsa), ⑥비야티레카(vyatireka), ⑦비바바나(vibhāvanā), ⑧사마소크티(samāsokti), ⑨아티샤요크티(atiśayokti)에 대해 알아본다. 전체적인 이해를 위해 제2장에서 제시된 수사법의 명칭과 일람을 표와 함께 제시하고, 해당 부분에서 ‘의미의 수사법’을 다루는 원문의 번역과 분석을 통해 바마하가 정리하는 수사법의 종류를 그 정의와 적용례를 고찰하여 파악한다. 아울러 바크로크티(vakrokti), 즉 ‘우회적 표현’ 개념과 우파마의 결함에 대한 간략한 논의를 통해 바마하의 수사법이 시작법(詩作法)의 체계에서 지니는 의의를 되짚어 본다.
In India poetics, various figures of speech(alaṃkāra), after had appeared in the Nāṭyaśāstra, have been played an important role as an element of versification. By the 7th century CE, the alaṃkara also has been treated actively by many scholars as poetical theory as well as a rhetoric skill. Among those figures, especially, Bhāmaha imbued the alaṃkāra with special significance in his work Kāvyālaṃkāra(KA). According to the classification of alaṃkāra which is represented in KA, there are 2 kinds of alaṃkāra, that is, śabdālaṃkāra and arthālaṃkāra. The former one is made by sound or words, on the other hand, the latter is made by meaning. Arthālaṃkāras which are proclaimed and represented in the KA by Bhāmaha are 34 kinds, and they are defined and illustrated with several examples made by the author and some debates. In this paper, I translated and examined the 2nd pariccheda of KA in which 9 kinds of arthālaṃkāras (rūpaka, dīpaka, upamā, ākṣepa, arthāntaranyāsa, vyatireka, vibhāvanā, samāsokti, and atiśayokti) are represented and tried to consider some debates on the arthālaṃkāras especially on vakrokti and the 7 doṣas of upamā briefly in some preceding researches.
