摘要
학월경산(鶴月京山, 1917~1979)은 선 수행자이면서 총무원장을 네 번이나 역임한 스님이다. 스님은 1936년 출가하여 1953년까지 17년간 전국의 사찰에서 큰스님들을 모시고수행했다. 그리고 1954년부터 열반에 이르기까지 사찰 주지, 중앙종회의원과 총무원장 등을 역임했다. 경산스님은 격변기의 불교계에서 왜색불교의 정화, 종단의 정화, 승가의 정화 등을 위해 노력했다. 그리고 포교분야에서도 수행포교, 지역포교, 교육포교, 문화포교 등에도큰 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 총무원장 재직시 군승제도 도입, 부처님오신날 공휴일 지정, 불교협의회 결성 등의 현안문제 해결을 위해 중요한 역할을 담당했다. 스님은 종단의 갈등이 격화되자 천축사 무문관에 입방하여 4년간 두문불출하고 수행에전념했다. 그리고 1979년 조계사측과 개운사측으로 분열된 종단을 화합시키고자 노력했으나 12월 25일 열반에 들었다. 경산스님의 포교사상은 지계청정의 정화, 하심과 화합의 평등, 심즉시불의 실용주의 등으로 요약해 볼 수 있다. 그리고 스님은 통합종단 출범과 함께 도제양성, 역경, 포교의삼대 종책사업을 적극 추진함으로써 현대적인 종단의 토대를 구축했다
Hakwol Gyeongsan (1917~1979) was a Buddhist monk who participated in the Zen meditation and was elected four times to the head of the general affairs office. Ven. Gyeongsan Bhikkhu became a Buddhist monk in 1936 and practiced with great monks at major temples across the country for 17 years until 1953. And from 1954 to his death, he experienced the chief monk of major temples, the Central Council member, and the general secretary. He tried to purify Japaneseized Buddhism in the history of the upheaval period, and to cleanse sects and monks' groups. He played an important role in the missionary field of meditation, region, education, and culture. In particular, while serving as the head of the general affairs office, he tried to solve problems such as the introduction of the military monk system, the designation of holidays on Buddha's birthday, and the formation of a Buddhist sect council. As the conflict within the Jogye Order intensified, he entered the Mumungwan of Cheonchuksa Temple and devoted himself to the practice for four years. He tried to unite the divided sects of Jogye Temple and Gaeun Temple in 1979, but on December 25, he entered Nirvana
