摘要
나눔의집은 일본군 위안부로 끌려간 여성들을 돕기 위한 시설이다. 일본군 위안부는 1932년부터 1945년까지의 기간 동안에 일본의 육군과 해군의 전지, 점령지 등에 설치한 위안소에 끌려와 일본의 군인, 군속의 성 상대를 강요당한 여성들이다. 월주(1935~2021) 스님은, 1992년 불교인권위원회의 상임대표로 추대되면서, 나눔의집을 설립했다. 나눔의집은 1993년부터 1995년까지 서울에서 여러 지역을 전전한 후 1995년 현재의 경기도 광주지역으로 이전했다. 월주 스님은 1996년 나눔의 집 이사장으로 취임한 후 2021년 열반할 때까지 이사장의 업무를 수행했다. 이사장 재임시 월주 스님은 생활관, 역사관, 교육관, 사무동, 집중치료동 등의 시설을 건립했다. 나눔의집 이사장으로 봉사하는 동안 월주 스님은 철저한 보살행을 실천했다. 나눔의집의 실무를 담당한 원장은 1991년 혜진 스님, 2001년 능광 스님, 2003년 원행 스님 등이 역임했다. 이곳에서는 2003년 일본군 위안부 실태를 배울 수 있는 역사관을 건립하고 제2종 박물관으로 등록했다. 2007년 미국 하원에서 일본정부에 대해 일본군 위안부 관련 문제를 사과하고, 일본의 교육기관에서 위안부 관련 문제를 커리큘럼에 도입할 것을 권고하는 결의안(H.Res.121)을 통과시켰다. 이 결의안 통과에 기여한 마이클 혼다 하원의원과 에니 팔레오마베 하원의원이 나눔의집을 수 차례 방문했다. 지속적으로 발전하던 나눔의집은 2020년 내부고발과 분규로 인해 혼란을 겪었다. 이 시설은 후원금의 용도 외 사용, 행정 미비로 인한 보조금법 위반 등으로 검찰의 수사를 받았다. 이 과정에서 아쉽게도 명예회복을 하지 못한채 이사장 월주 스님이 열반에 들었다. 월주 스님은 많은 후원자를 모집하여 나눔의집 경영에 큰 기여를 하였다. 나눔의집은 새로운 이사장으로 선임하고 면모를 일신하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 대한불교조계종, 제17교구본사인 금산사, 월주문도회 등은 상호 협력하여 나눔의집 정상화와 미래 발전을 위해 노력해야 한다.
The House of Sharing is a facility that helps women who were taken to Japanese Military Sexual Slavery and suffered. Japanese Military Sexual Slavery involved women who were brought to brothels established by the Japanese military from 1932 to 1945 and forced to sexualize them. Monk Wolju (1935-2021) was appointed as the permanent representative of the Buddhist Human Rights Committee in 1992 and established the House of Sharing to help them. The House of Sharing was active in various regions of Seoul between 1993 and 1995. In 1995, it was moved to Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Monk Wolju served as the Chairman of the House of Sharing from 1996 to 2021. During his tenure as chairman, Monk Wolju built facilities such as dormitories, history halls, education halls, office buildings, and intensive care buildings. While serving as the chairman of the House of Sharing, Monk Wolju out the bodhisattva. Monks Hye-jin in 1991, Neunggwang in 2001, and Wonhaeng in 2003 were the directors in charge of the House of Sharing administration. In 2003, a history museum was built to reveal the problem of sexual slavery in the Japanese military and was registered as a second class museum. In 2007, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution (H. Res.121) apologizing to the Japanese government for Japanese Military Sexual Slavery-related issues and recommended that Japanese educational institutions introduce Japanese Military Sexual Slavery-related issues into their curriculum. US representatives Michael Honda and Eni Palaeomabe, who contributed to the passage of the resolution, visited the House of Sharing several times. The facility for sexual slavery in the Japanese military was disrupted by whistleblowing and staff conflicts in 2020. The facility was prosecuted for off-use donations and violations of the subsidy law. Unfortunately, Monk Wolju died in 2021 without recovering his honor. Wolju recruited several sponsors and significantly contributed to the management of the House of Sharing. Currently, the House of Sharing is appointing a new chairperson and renewing its operating environment. The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, Geumsan Temple, headquarters of the 17th parish, and the Woljumundo Association should cooperate to normalize the House of Sharing and develop the future.
