摘要
세친(Vasubandhu)과 중현(Saṃghabhadra)은 전기상으로든 교학 상으로 든 불가분의 관계의 관계를 갖는다. 『구사론』과 이에 대한 비판서인 『순정리론』은 그들의 생애에 큰 비중을 차지할 뿐만 아니라 서로에 대해 어떤 식으로든 관계하고 있기 때문이다. 주지하듯이 세친은 『구사론』에서 경량부 즉 상좌 슈리라타(Sthavira Śrīlāta)에 따라 설일체유부의 학설, 예컨대 그들의 성전관과 인과론을 비판하였다. 그러나 설일체 유부와 유가행파는 이에 대한 견해를 함께 하였고, 이후 유가행파로 전향한 세친은 일찍이 자신이 비판하였던 중현의 논리로써 경량부의 주장을 비판하지 않으면 안 되었다. 이는 세친 개인으로서는 아이러니였고 딜레마였을 것이다. 추측컨대 이러한 종류의 아이러니는 그의 지적 편력에 따른 필연적인 것으로, ‘이장위종(理長爲宗)’이라는 그에 대한 후대의 평가도 이에 따른 수사였을지 모른다.
Whether biographically or ideally, Vasubandhu and Saṃghabhadra are inseparably related to each other. It is because Abhidharmakośabhāṣya and Nyāyānusāra śāstra as a critical book against it not only have great weight with their lives but also are related to each other in some way. As is well known, Vasubandhu criticized the Sarvāstivādins theories, such as a view of Holy Scriptures and causal theories, according to the Sautrāntika, that is, Sthavira Śrīlāta in the Abhidharmakośabhāṣya. But the Sarvāstivādins and the Yogācāra shared their views on this. Vasubandhu, who converted to Yogācāra, had to criticize the claim of the Sautrāntika with the logic of Saṃghabhadra, which he had criticized earlier. To Vasubandhu, this would be an irony and dilemma personally. Though at a guess, following his intellectual journey, his irony was inevitable and the later criticism calling him as li chang wei zong (理長爲宗, i.e. A person who considers good logic to be the ultimate truth, no matter who claims it) may also be the rhetoric which to explain that.
