摘要
코로나 19 바이러스의 세계적 펜데믹 상황이 지속되고 있다. 코로나 19의발생 원인은 다양하지만, 많은 연구가는 최근의 감염병들이 인류의 욕심이 빚어낸 생태계 파괴와 기후변화가 원인이라고 한다. 원불교를 창교한 소태산은인류가 안게 될 각종 문명의 위기를 해결하기 위해서는 근본적으로 인간 정신의 대 변혁이 선행되어야 한다고 보면서 ‘정신개벽(精神開闢)’을 외쳤다. 그리고 소태산은 정신개벽을 이루기 위한 구체적인 방법 중 하나로 새 시대에 맞는 새로운 불공법을 제시하였다. 이에 논자는 「원불교 처처불상 사사불공을통한 기후위기 극복방안에 대한 연구」를 논제로 하여 원불교 불공법을 통한기후위기의 해결 방안에 대한 사상적 · 실천적 방안을 모색하고자함을 이 논문의 목적으로 삼았다. 원불교의 입장에서 자신의 종교적 가치가 세계 보편의 가치와 소통되기 위해서는 원불교 환경운동의 역할이 매우 중요하다. 소태산은 처처불상 사사불공의 불공법을 통한 기후위기의 극복을 간절히 바랄것이다.
The global pandemic caused by COVID-19 still remains a real threat. People can contract COVID-19 in a variety of ways, but a large contingent of researchers say that recent infectious diseases could be caused by the destruction of our ecosystem and climate change brought on by human greed. Sotaesan, the founder of Won- Buddhism, asserted the concept of “Jeongsingaebyeok (Great Opening of Spirit)” based on his belief that fundamentally, a great opening in the human spirit is a prerequisite in solving the various crises human civilizations can expect to face in the future. Sotaesan also presented a new Buddhist practice suited to the new era as one of the specific methods to attain mental enlightenment. In response to this assertion, this author set out to seek ideological and practical ways to solve the climate crisis through the Won-Buddhist teachings for this thesis, based on the subject of “A study on how to overcome the climate crisis through Won-Buddhism’s mantra of ‘Everywhere a buddha image, Every act a buddha offering’. From the standpoint of Won-Buddhism, the role of the Won-Buddhist environmental movement is crucial when it comes to interfacing an individual’s religious values with universal values. Sotaesan, had he experienced today’s climate crisis, would have earnestly hoped to overcome the climate crisis with Buddha’s teachings.
