Abstract柳田國男、折口信夫に次ぐ民俗学者と評される著者の、未公刊博士論文「日本仏教民俗学論攷」はじめ、仏教民俗学を構築した主要論文を収録した半世紀にわたる研究成果の集大成。

作者(1908-1993)專研歷史學(日本宗教史)、民俗學，至今仍是日本民俗學研究之重要代表人物。本書收錄作者未發表之博士論文「日本佛教民俗學論考」，及個人建構佛教民俗學的主要論述，共分三大部分：(一)民俗學之提倡，含括佛教與民俗學、佛教儀禮的民俗性、佛教與民俗、日本佛教的民俗性等；(二)佛教民俗學的方法論，及作者在1962年撰成之博士論文「日本佛教民俗學論考」；(三)佛教民俗學研究之歷史回顧。作者於1977年創辦日本宗教民俗學研究所並擔任所長，1978年受任大谷大學名譽教授，1980年受勳三等瑞寶章，享年85歲。
